Top Barn Activity Centre and Lake 2016 Update

Top Barn Activity Centre is finally under new the new ownership of University Worcester (UW), and is to be referred to as 'Lakeside Campus'.

TVT has been in regular contact with UW over the future plans for Lakeside, but more importantly for us all Open Water Swim (OWS). As a result of a meeting I had this week, I am very pleased to announce that we plan to re-start OWS as of around the last weekend of April to first weekend of May. It is a little 'up in the air' at present as to a firm start date as it depends on the completion of maintenance work currently going on - I will update you all nearer the time. However, as Worcester Tri will be hosting the Worcester Standard Distance Triathlon at Lakeside on 15th May, the pressure is on UW to be ready well in advance, so I don't envisage any issues.

However, also of great importance are the facilities moving forward. At the moment, and certainly for this coming season, changing facilities will be the two large main changing rooms - these are having new boilers that will be properly fit for purpose for the showers. The wet room cubicles outside will remain, but will have the showers removed and serve as additional toilet/wash basin facilities suitable for changing gear if if necessary. There will be no café, but we will be provided with hot drink making facilities and an 'honesty' box to cover costs.

Most important of all…THE LAKE - UW are committed to regular and routine maintenance that will include weed control/removal. I have been asked to consider continuing the water quality treatment I did last year too. As a result of the weed control, we will be looking to reinstate the original 'M' swim line configuration giving a 750m swim distance. There will be qualified OWS lifeguard on duty by UW, and two spotters by TVT.

Registration, will be run by TVT as normal - so your key tags from 2015 will be valid. Swim cost will remain at £5.00 per swimmer, with concessions for current TVT members and Junior swimmers.

We hope you will support OWS once more, and look forward to seeing you for the 2016 season.

Cheers, Simon
